Mkid73 1 yr. ago Yay an excuse to brag about my little boy. He's 7.5 months old now from bringing him home at 11 weeks old I've never had to get up once during the night for him, he's happy in his crate. I've had less than probably 12 accidents in the house. The worst things he's done is digging a few holes in my garden. And he is like a vacuum cleaner on walks so I'm constantly saying leave it and drop it. Once he realises he isn't getting food off my plate he'll happily curl up next to me on t

nickles_3724 1 yr. ago Experienced Owner 11 month... Oh my, I have a similar story that I always felt bad rubbing in peoples faces. My breeder did an amazing job with our pup before we got her. The result was that she was a breeze to potty train and woke up only once in the night (first night we got her, probably because her crate was in a different room), and then never again. She is also amazing with small children because she realized early if she doesn't sit completely still and just enjoy t

chibisun 1 yr. ago 2 year old MAS • i think looking back my puppy was just being a puppy but i read so much online that i thought if she did anything wrong she'd get into a habit of that and never learn. she learned really fast actually and in retrospect was a good normal puppy, she's never destroyed anything and only had issues potty training because she had a yeast infection. sometimes you just need to accept that your puppy is learning and everything is new to them and put yourself in their s

mybotanicaltreasures 1 yr. ago New Owner: Shiba inu My shiba inu, Yuki is my first dog ever after waiting years for her! To bring her home, I had to drive 6 hours alone with her, she slept most of the way and didn't puke or cry. Our first night together, she slept through the entire night. She's 15 months now, and I can count on one hand how many times I've had to bring her out overnight. She's very cuddly, extremely clean (hops over mud puddles), and let's me cut her nails or clean her paws wit

LtDrinksAlot 1 yr. ago edited 1 yr. ago . Wife and I have been really lucky. We have a 5month old chocolate lab who has just blossomed into a great dog. The first few crate training nights were hard but he adjusted. Then he graduated to sleeping on the bed with us. He use to wake us up 2-3 times a night to go to the bathroom, now he sleeps from 10- 8. I taught him to use a stool to hop onto and off the bed, so when I wake up for work in the morning he hops down and comes with me as I get ready,

We started crate training to prevent him from destroying anything or getting into anything dangerous. Give him a peanut butter bone and he'd happily lick it up in the crate and fall asleep. Now we don't even use the crate, just take him for a nice play in the park for some frisbee fetch and we can leave him for 3-4 hours and he just sleeps on the couch. He's starting to learn not to jump up on people and his biting has got a lot better, but it's still there. I can tell his teeth are bothering hi

Temporary-Tie-233 · 1 yr. ago I'm raising my puppy alongside several other dogs, I'm not new at this and know how to set myself and my animals up for success. My puppy has been amazing. He has tons of energy so he needs more exercise than my other dogs ever have but I am willing and able to provide that to keep him focused. I have a lot of training skills I haven't needed to use much because he's highly intuitive as long as I keep the excess energy burned off. When I first adopted him my dad kep

resented the comparison. But I eventually realized he wasn't that far off: there will never be another Louie and the puppy is actually the polar opposite anyway, but still remarkable in his own way. I somehow lucked into once in a lifetime dogs twice. He's still a puppy and he's not perfect, but he's pretty I close and I'm thrilled with him.

_pea-nut 1 yr. ago My puppy (4.5 m french bulldog) has been the light of our lives and I miss her when she's sleeping/napping haha. I had my days where I just need to leave and go on a walk bc she would go pee every 15 min or less when playing. Through a ton of consistency and a bigger bladder and more control - we have like 1 accident a week and it's usually bc we have friends over and we get distracted. She only play bit, with pretty good inhibition and only 2 times ever hurt (my partner). She

want her to do. She is cuddly and more loving than we deserve. She is flexible. Since vaccinated she has gone to restaurants flawlessly, can ignore people on walks, "Leave it" and is not reactive to noises or alarms or fire trucks. We also put her in a backpack for the first 2 months to get her used to being out and about. She is not aggressive towards people or any other animals. Shes a GREAT sleeper. 12 hours/night with no interruptions. We wake her up at hr 4 to go to the bathroom and the las

westcoastmama7 . 1 yr. ago I went in to puppy-ownership feeling pretty positive and confident. I was shocked when I went through a brutal few weeks of puppy blues - it was rough! BUT our puppy is amazing. I've read so many puppy horror stories and definitely spent a long time kind of waiting for these things to happen... and they just didn't. Yes, my puppy had accidents and the typical puppy stuff. But she was never terribly bitey/mouthy, barely chewed any of our stuff and is a pretty chill girl

Maleficent-Pear-9590 1 yr. ago Hi! Love this discussion. My pup (~4mo GSD-Lab-Pyrenees) has been a usual pup in many ways, but also a dream. We have a 4-year rescue with some anxiety, and it's been SO MUCH EASIER to train a puppy than a 1.5yr nervous rescue was. The dogs get along (most of the time), the baby learns from her big sister, and she's smart as a whip (thanks GSD!). It's so cool to watch her pick up on things so fast, and to see things like impulse control developing.

our biggest win, I think, was that leash training was a breeze. We didn't even really start inside, we just went for a walk with her older sister and she just got it right away. She bites/plays with the leash while we're getting ready, sure, but hardly ever on the walk itself. She comes back to my side with gentle tug-pressure, she takes treats with gusto outside (older anxious girl has a hard time with taking treats outside), her off- leash recall is great, and she's really brave around new env

MimosaLeBrunch 1 yr. ago. edited 1 yr. ago Hi! I don't know if I'm super lucky or what, but I have a very easy puppy. The first 3-5 weeks were a bigger challenge, but since, it's been pretty good. My idea going into it was that a puppy can't keep on with a behaviour that's not engrained. So I watched her a lot when she first got here, for about 4-5 months. As soon as she did something I didn't want her to keep doing, I worked on it. For example she started biting her leash and pulling on it. I g

the leash to try and get her to let go, it would be me playing her game. So I just stopped, turned around, didn't say anything or look at her, and waited for her to get bored. It took a week and she hasn't pulled since. Jumping on people is another one. If you give them attention, even if you deem it negative, they get something out of it so they'll try again and again. Same thing, when she did it, I turned around and ignored her completely. Asked my family and friends to do the same. She only t

That's my main advice. Force your puppy to sleep. They don't sleep enough and they get awful because of it. It's a life changer once it's implemented. Try and understand things with a dog's mind. They won't learn how to do something well if you just repeat the command and expect them to get it eventually. Figure out ways to teach things physically with no words, and add the word only at the very end of the process.

Plants_and_huskies 1 yr. ago My first puppy was a nightmare for me! He ate everything, he would run circles around the living room on the furniture and pee the whole time, he would pee just because he loved me so much and I woke up, he was the wooooorst listener (to be fair he was a Husky/blue heeler), and he was sooo annoying to other dogs. He was so hard to potty train, because of the excited peeing. He once did his zoomies so hard he smashed my daughters head into a wall, which knocked a thic

family! He's still got a stinker attitude, and sometimes he acts pretty naughty, but he's lovable and overall so well behaved. My second puppy was sooooo0 good. He had giardia when we first got him, but as soon as we got that taken care of he basically had the easiest time potty training, he was such a good listener, and he was so insanely sweet to everyone. I adored him from day one, and couldn't have dreamed up a better puppy.

My current puppy is a little of both, but I'm so used to puppies at this point that it's just not a big deal anymore. He had a lot of accidents, and sometimes still marks in the house, but I just clean it well and try to stop him from doing it again. He chews things up, but only if I leave things out while not watching him. He listens fairly well, but sometimes he is pretty confident he doesn't need to listen to me(jokes on him because yes he definitely does have to listen to me). The biggest th

unattended. If I don't want him peeing in the house I need to take him out a lot and keep him very close. If I don't want him chewing on me I need to give him toys in place of me, and make those toys seem REALLY AWESOME.

Xanxiel 1 yr. ago Toy Aussie (1yo) Everything has gone smoothly for my pup - but I feel like a lot of things that have happened with me could potentially stress others out. And it's just that I see my pup as a puppy, so if something goes "wrong", it's bound to happen. He's a puppy after all. The main thing is patience A lil "success" story from recent: I went away for a few days, the housesitter taught my pup paw. A trick I'd never bothered teaching him. To me this is a success not because of th

zoak3030 1 yr. ago Hi. I almost backed out of getting a puppy because the build up was so high. Turns out my 5 month old was a dream. The first two weeks are tough, you're getting to know them and the routine but patience and a good attitude goes a long way. After we figured out the crate and the potty training starting week three it's been easy street! He sleeps through the night, sits by the door to be let out, listens to some commands, and has the best attitude: he is so un phased and not fus

matski007 1 yr. ago With hindsight I can now see that the first 4 months with our puppy were actually pretty bloody good, especially considering the stories I have read on here. I think ultimately the main issue was my own anxiety and just not having the experience of raising a puppy. If I could go back and time just a few months, I'd tell my past self that Scotty really will learn to piss and poop outside and that the biting will stop!. the aggro has been worth it though, our little cockapoo is

ayenon0602 1 yr. ago We have a 7 month old basset hound and while he was truly a run for our money months 3-4, after those puppy teeth fell out he really started to show his personality. He's so happy and friendly to all people, and how that he's less timid he's confident around dogs and is/has always been non-aggressive with them. He's SO cuddly. He has no issues being moved in his sleep, or resource guarding his toys. Does he still pee in the house sometimes? Yes he does. Does he go in the cra

Chinateapott 1 yr. ago Whilst we had a few issues, all in all we have been spoilt by our puppy, so much so that our trainer warned us about getting another (thinking about doing so when our girl is around a year old) She was pretty quick to catch on to toilet training, she was already crate trained, she's pretty nervous so sticks close by on walks and doesn't pull and is so eager to please she only has to be shown something two or three times and she's got it down. She's also super cuddly/playfu
